Avast Webrep crashing repeatedly again

A week ago, I created this thread
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=118197.0

because I had been repeatedly getting (see attached image file) in the lower right of my screen just above the system tray even when Chrome wasn’t even open.

I was told to watch this for a fix
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_KONTflvTk

I opened Chrome’s extensions, told Avast Webred to remove from Chrome and did what that video said to do to re-install it.

That worked for a week. This evening, it is happening again. How do I fix it and ensure that it won’t happen again? It used to never happen at all ever.

try a repair through the control panel avast

I recommend that you clean your Windows registry with Aulogics Registry Cleaner: http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/registry-cleaner/download/

reinstall the browser from the manufacturer’s website

https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/

Told this was to watch for a fix

Cleaning the registry is never a good idea unless you’re an expert.
One wrong entry or removal and you could have a system that doesn’t boot.

always used the computer and never had any problem. I consider one of the best software to clean opinion.vai depend on the user profile (basic or advanced), usage profile of the computer hardware configuration of the machine and the identification of user.

So you’ve been lucky. Unfortunately not everyone is and if it blocks you from booting your system, then what ???
If it isn’t broke, don’t try to fix it. Simple advice.

I don’t wanna touch the registry, but I’ll try the other things you suggest, thanx!

Hi - tried the YouTube fix - no luck. Tried re-installing Chrome - worked for about 15 seconds and then avast Webrep crashed again.

I have the latest version of Chrome, Win 7, and avast. This problem does not occur on a laptop with the identical software, but different hardware.

For now I will just live without Webrep - it doesn’t seem to be an essential part to avast.

That’s exactly what it is with me too. Happens on my home system, but not on my laptop with the same OS, browser and software.
