In my first laptop, I have IE, Firefox, and Waterfox installed. I installed Avast! 7 and I only saw IE listed under the “Browser Protection” tab of Avast!'s user interface. Why is that?
I have a second laptop with IE, Firefox, and Google Chrome installed and then I tried installing Avast! 7 in it too and it listed the three browsers under Browser Protection.
I understand that Avast! did not install the WebREP plugin for Waterfox since it is a 64-bit browser but why did it not install it in Firefox also for my first laptop?
Sorry, I can’t give a reason why, only that it installed just fine on firefox 14.0.1 (installed in the default location) on my XP Pro system.
I don’t have waterfox though so I don’t know if the similarities between the two and where they might be installed somehow caused some conflict/confusion.
I thought that you could try manually installing it, but I looked in the C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\WebRep\FF folder and that only had the install.rdf file not the usual .xpi installation file.
I don’t know how waterfox uses the same FF profile (not something I can test not having a 64bit OS), if that somehow changes anything in firefox.
You could try a repair of avast:
Win7 - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Uninstall/Change and select Repair, click next and follow.
I am using IE9, FF 14.0.1, and Waterfox 14.0.2 on a win 7 64bit and FF and IE are both showing up on my browser protection, but since waterfox is new, I don’t expect that to show up, yet. When I first installed FF, it asked me about webrep add on to be installed. Did you check the box that said install this program or something like that then clicked continue? I am also using the beta 7.0.1461 of avast if that makes a difference.
Isn’t there an add-on section in the FF settings for you? You can enable the add on in there. If it doesn’t show up there, then trying a repair for Avast might be needed.
I don’t think that you would see anything in firefox as avast isn’t trying to install the webrep as it isn’t detecting it. That is why it isn’t listed in the browser protection section.
If avast did attempt to install it being a third party add-on FF would have displayed this pop-up, see image.
I have just updated to the avast beta version 7.0.1461 (can’t be done through the UI) - see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=102720.0 if you want to give that a try. But if it is a recognition/detection of firefox I don’t know if that would resolve it. So start with the avast repair as I suggested.
