Avast Webscanner doesn't let me look at internet unless terminated. why?

Okay, I installed Avast! Home Edition on my stepmom’s computer, I have installed this on 4 other computers flawlessly. The program installed fine, but whenever the computer was done with the reboot, I realized I couldn’t connect to the internet at ALL. Then I figured it must have been a virus that was causing the trouble and activated when I installed Avast!. So, I think, ‘Well, let me see if the iTunes store works.’ So I open iTunes and sure enough it connects perfectly. So I was thinking, ‘What would only keep my browsers from connecting and not other applications?’ and couldn’t come to a solution. So I sit around (hours later) and decide to mess with the Web Scanner. When I do I just click pause, then decide to try the internet just in case it was the problem, well it still doesn’t work. I give up and do something else. (Hours later) I decide to get to work on it again. I finally come across the idea to Terminate the Web Scanner, I check the internet AND IT WORKS!! Now I’m here asking you guys to help me solve this weird problem.

Please help, thanks! ??? ??? ??? ???

Hello mphantom93

which firewall do you use?. have you allowed all the avast process to connect to internet in the firewall?

before avast!, which security product did you use and how did you uninstall?.

currently what other security product do you use with avast! ?

Double-check that. It causes more problems than you think, just have a look around these boards.

If you did have an Anti-virus prior to installing avast on your machine, it’s probably causing problems. A removal tool will likely be needed to clean it completely off of your machine before avast will work correctly.

It’s like hiring two bouncers for the same bar, and they’re trying to kick each other out. It’s not fixing any problems, just creating them. ;D

Thanks scythe, it worked. ;D ;D

Cool, I’m glad that it did. Belated Welcome to the forums!
