Avast, what are you doing?

Dear Avast, I use this antivirus since 7-8 years, I always was happy. Now, starting with 2015, you are doing something very bad against customers. Once every 2-3 days you force to pay for another Avast version, but the worst thing you do is send messages saying " your pc is slow" Your pc has GRIME". That’s not true because I detected my pc with other programs and is clean. I don’t believe you are doing something good, in this way you force people to disinstall Avast and use another antivirus, and I am really thinking to do that.

That is not true. You pay per year (or multiple years), not by just a couple of days.
but the worst thing you do is send messages saying " your pc is slow" Your pc has GRIME"
That is a advertisement pop-up which you can disable in the paid versions of avast.

Number one, I am saying " pop up every two days, not pay". Number two, software Grimefighter is giving a lot of trouble to the people. Number three, is no nice send popup to the customers saying " your pc is slow" or " your pc has problems" when is NOT TRUE. Dear Eddy, that’s what happens, if you don’t like I can’t do nothing.

You can disable the ads in the paid versions.
Avast GUI → Settings → Popups

Hi,

yes I agree, GrimeFighter is often not working as expected and that’s why made a completely new cleaning tool called Cleanup that will be released really soon. We will look into the messaging as well, that’s also not ideal.
If you with you can turn on Silent mode, that will mute these popups.

Avast, you should really loose the cleaning tools, Grimefighter etc, they are nothing but a money grab that frequently do more harm than good. Stick with what you do well, be an antivirus not a tool kit that tries do to everything, because when you do that you end up doing several things poorly instead of doing one thing very well.

digmor … I agree completely.

Avast should be the best anti-virus on the market.

Get rid of these other questionable offerings which degrade their reputation.

P.S. Good god … those captcha letters are impossible to decipher.

A necessary pain to try to prevent spam bots, by its nature they have to be hard. You will be happy to know that it is only for your first three posts, so no more for you.

There are some mature cleanup tools such as CCleaner, they’ve been around a while, they’ve made them as safe
as they can, even still they occasionally delete something they shouldn’t have and the user has problems.

I have to question avast’s decision to enter this market, I can’t see it ending well at all.
Secondly, to make Grimefighter a part of the default install, you have to ask -
in whose interest is it - avast’s or the users?

Re Ccleaner
Even Ccleaner can cause problems if not used properly.
Any time you change anything in the registry without knowing it’s effect, you could wind up with a serious problem.

This is, of course, my point. CCleaner, generally respected, been around for years, multiple versions,
constant honing and refinement of the product, and still it’s not bullet proof.

If CCleaner still makes the occasional mistake, how can you trust Grimefighter on your system?
The novices, who do the default install are guinea pigs, as usual.

That blanket statement can be made about any software.

Reposted (for Bob) with readable/bigger quote font size.

Another Forum bug. Using the quote option and then inserting parts of a post without also using the correct font option gives you extremely small fonts.
Hope one of these days, these lingering forum problems get cleared up. :frowning:
Thanks Asyn.

I don’t know why you suffer this (more I can’t remember the cause, when you last had this issue) when the rest of us don’t appear to have any text size issues.

The issue isn’t when you use the quote of a reply. It happens when you select

and then insert something between the 2 quotes.

I just used the Insert Quote icon and then pasted the above text and that appears fine for me.

generally I use the quote from the post I want to quote and chop out the bits I’m not going to reply about.

I also use Chrome by default. Don’t know if that makes a difference.

I use firefox exclusively now (39.0) so I can’t say for other browsers.

They seem to be messing up which was once a good product.
