Avast, what has gone wrong with you?

Hi everyone,

I’ve got Avast Internet Security and have had it for a couple of years now. My current subscription still has about 10 months to run, but I think when it runs out that’ll be me.

At the moment I can’t update Safezone. Every time I try to open it I get a message saying a new version is available, would I like to update now? I click on yes and it ignores my request, simply opening up Safezone without updating. The result is I can’t open Pay Mode, which presumably requires the latest version of Safezone to work.

So I try to contact Avast customer support and it asks me to login. I log in with the username and password I have and it says username or password incorrect. So I check my emails and copy and paste the password exactly as Avast sent it to me, and it still says it’s incorrect.

So I click on unable to access my account, and it says my email address isn’t even registered.

I’ve been with you for about 2 and a half years, and now you’re saying I’m not even a customer so I can’t get any support to fix the problem of WHY I’m not recognised as a customer. Unbelievable.

I suggest an installation from scratch (getting your license key file before):

  1. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest Avast version and save it.
  3. (Optional) If you want, save your Avast settings for later restoration (Settings > Maintenance > Back up).
  4. Uninstall Avast from Control Panel (if possible) and reboot.
  5. Run the Avast Uninstall Utility saved on 1 in and follow the instructions. Reboot Windows in Safe Mode, uninstall Avast and then reboot in Normal Mode again.
  6. Install Avast using the setup saved on 2. Register your free copy or add the license key for the paid versions. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.

Please, be patient, boot when it’s said to boot…
