Recently my internet browsing has suffered from periodic freezes and slow downs, no matter which browser, no matter which WIFI connection. So I narrowed it down to possibly Avast Pro (licensed). I tried to open the management console and it opens a whitebox or white screen on my desktop. I have gone through the online help uninstall instructions several times, downloaded a fresh install file for Avast Pro and STILL all I get when I open Avast is a white screen.
I’m at my wits end. I’ve paid for my license but Avast is not working. Avast shows running, but the tray icon says “You are unprotected”.
This is killing me. I hope someone can solve this. Searches show others have had the same problem but no one has found a solution.
Downloaded latest version yesterday (can’t tell you the version number because I can’t open it)
No other security software other than malware bytes which doesn’t run at startup, I have to run it manually
Never had any other security software on it, this machine has been running Avast Pro for years and years
Having the same problem for some time now with the latest version (19.1.4142.424 based on the installation file). Like steve282 said clean install doesn’t work. Earlier it opened after a bit of waiting but not anymore.
Is there any fix since those last couple months (since the first post)?
I’m using Windows 10 x64 btw.
Well, I didn’t know there is a new one since Avast was unable to inform me about it (except adding the blue dot which I don’t know what it stands for since I also have daily scan setup). Ill try clean install. Thanks.
You can post in this topic (or any newer NEW Version topic that shows up after this one) and click NOTIFY while logged in to get automatic notification sent to your email account you specify whenever a new post is made to that topic.
The ‘blue dot’ is a notification posted on the tray icon to let you know of an important message located in the notification section of the Avast GUI or program window.
Previously, in an earlier version of Avast, the notification color was red, and some users reported heart attacks when they saw this, so Avast changed it to blue. We don’t want our users to be stressed when they don’t need to be.
I don’t know what is an important notification since I had that everyday after a scan that was finished clean…
And about new version you should update the offline installer then cause it still downloads 19.1.4142.424 version.
I see you keep asking “what version of avast?”, “Which operating system?” Etc.
The problem has been reported on several occasions and is real. https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=225642.0
It would seem that it was solved with the last beta and therefore those looking for solutions must wait for the release of the new stable version.
Oh, I was suppose to search for it on the forum. I was so stupid to download it from the main site… Cause who would look for it on the main site…
But seriously - update your links.
btw, it still doesn’t open, even right after I have installed it and rebooted…
Edit: just opened after few minutes of waiting… I think its gonna be like that all the time…
