Avast will not install on Windows 10

Hi,
I have Win10 x64 v1607 b14393.1358.
I had been using Avast Free for many years even on Win10, which was a DOWNGRADE from Win7. Then I did a clean install of Win10 on the same machine and all of a sudden Avast Free will not install anymore. It has non-descript error message. Sadly I cannot find the screenshot right now, but it looks very much like this one (https://static.avast.com/support/kb/images/v2017/avkb13/en/view_setup_log.png). Just says error and install not finished. I have the error log copied and will gladly send it to Avast custom care if they show up.
JFYI installed Kaspersky AV, worked fine. Uninstalled and tried to reinstall and it never installed again. Now I have NOD trial which installed ok.
Phew.
Thanks in advance for any good ideas!
(i.e. no graphomaniacs telling me to update windows, check drivers, check for viruses, etc. please, thank you)

Thanks for pointing this out for me. Corrected in the original post. It is Avast Free. I would use support ticket otherwise. cannot find a way to do so now. The installation is online, so the latest Avast is installed, but the first problems occurred at the beginning of this month.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!

Then:

Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
Reboot.

Hi and thanks for your reply.
Firstly it was a clean OS install (see above) and no Avast remnants possible. Today they might be some though.
Secondly and I swear on everything that is saint to me, I ran that Avast clear tool once and when it was done ALL FILE FROM MY DESKTOP WERE GONE. I will never dare to run that thing again.
Unless someone figures this is an OS related thing I might be stuck out of Avast.

That’s strange, did you by accident coose the wrong folder…?

If you installed Avast in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)

Not a chance. I am very careful about installs and setups. I have notes on everything in this dpt. I used Avast for many years. I still have backups of my previous install and setting notes. Really zero chance. Contacted Avast about it, after it happened. They said it was not possible. Must have been magic :-/
