Avast will not install

Dear All,
I had Avast installed on this machine then the whole Avast4 folder (C:\program files\alwil software\avast4) became corrupt… malware? I have had AVG installed since then but I really don’t like it and would like to get Avast back. Since I cannot even access the Avast4 folder, I deleted the root alwill software folder and am trying to install the software but am getting an error as soon as installation starts. I’ve tried setupeng /forceinstall and it did not help. Anyone got any ideas?

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there.
  4. Boot.
  5. Download, save and install the latest avast! version. It will be good to accept the boot time scanning on next boot.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.

Also, remove remains of AVG: http://www.grisoft.com/ww.download-tools
