My Avast Internet Security program does not start running when I boot up, as it should. If I try to run it manually, nothing happens. I’m also having a problem with some other programs that will not run. For those, I get a message that says, “The application or DLL [DLL name] is not a valid Windows image.” I’ve run some other anti-malware programs, like Malware Bytes, but that hasn’t helped. I also tried to boot into safe mode to see if I could address the problem and my PC just froze.
Any suggestions on how I might resolve this?
Thanks!
Lori
I got stuck right out of the gate. Per the instructions, I downloaded Malwarebytes. When I tried to install it, I got this message: “Runtime Error (at 4:14:120). Could not call proc.”
Any suggestions? Should I just skip this step for now and go on to the next one?
Thanks a bunch for helping me out with this.
Lori
I don’t malicious software in logs. It seems that your OS (outdated XP) is broken and DLL errors you are getting are result of that. You have Core 2 Quad CPU which is more than capable to run newer versions of Windows.
That makes a lot of sense – I’ve been limping along with Windows XP for too long. I will upgrade to a newer version.
Thanks for looking into this for me.
