Hi robinhoodmjp
Welcome to the forum.
Please help us help you.
What version of Avast! are you using
What vps version?
What OS?
What exactly is the error message? (If you are getting one.)
etc. etc.
Do you have or have you pereviously had another AV program on your system?
If yes, when and which one? and when?

thanks for the quick reply…I listed all 3 error messages above…Im using avast 4.5 home and I had Mcafee pro.version 7. but I removed it prior to installing avast…even rebooted before the avast install…I run windows xp pro…hope this helps…thanks again!!!

Unfortunately it appears that there are still remnents of Mcafee pro.version 7 left on your computer.
See if the following link helps you in getting rid of it.

Once Mcafee is totally remove, Uninstall Avast and reboot.
Then re-install avast!.
Let us know how you make out.

Check out this thread for lots of options you can set through the avast.ini file. Understanding avast4.ini file Look at the third post [Common] and the Database ODBC entry, changing the ODBC for XML in the avast4.ini file could resolve the problem.

well…I’ve tried all of the above and still not working…is it possible that when I downloaded the setup file, that I might be missing some of it?..after all I am on dial up…any more hints or help would be great!!!

Did you edit the avast4.ini file?

Check this thread, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=5438, were these the same errors?

Follow the thread through, if you haven’t already got AEC - RejZor’s avast! External Control program, get it use that to change the ODBC to XML.

Storage problems?
You may try to open the \data\avast4.ini file and in the [Common] section, change the item Database=ODBC to Database=XML. This could prevent the Microsoft Jet drivers from accessing the database… does it have any (positive) effect?

If you ask which is better ODBC or XML? I’ll say that for the Home version, they are equal. For the Professional version of avast!, XML is missing some functionality (compared to ODBC).

But if it does not work, maybe you can install the last version of Microsoft Jet Drivers (http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/a/4/1a47382d-18f3-41d4-b92c-74db27d5944b/MDAC_TYP.EXE): Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8
