avast will not update definitions properly

Can’t tell if have updated properly, it looks like it hasn’t worked properly every time, starts but says cannot establish connection, however other internet services are still working correctly.

Not sure that have the latest version and definitions but cannot check properly via the software itself because it keeps giving this error message.

?

Into the Update settings of avast, try to set “no proxy” at all instead of automatic.

Thanks have just tried that and it’s not fixing the problem. Still get a red pop up saying update unsuccessful.

do you have a firewall with outbound protection?

I may have windows firewall installed but it has not stopped Avast from updating previously.

you guys have an answer for this issue because the same issue is currently happening with my SMB client…

If you get the Red update failed pop-up.

Try a manual virus definitions update, if that fails what error/notification are you getting (usually in the interface) ?

If it is saying that your virus definitions are up to date then try a repair of avast:
XP - Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and select Repair, click next and follow.

Vista, win7 - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Uninstall/Change and select Repair, click next and follow.

You may need to reboot after the repair.

This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version.

Manual update of the full VPS - avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update

No, this fail’s as well.

Ok, I will uninstall 10 wkst’s of avast to remedy this issue… Hope it works…

No Dice— repair/ uninstall does not work: error reading product data, setup can not continue…

Looks like you have a corrupt install, a clean reinstall is probably best.

  • Download the latest version of avast, 7.0.1456 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for 5.x, 6.0.x and 7.0.x).

    1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 6.x if previously installed and then for 7.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

before the next response of downloading the http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and make me drive 50 miles to be onsite(utility needs to run in safemode, cant do that thru remote mgrment) please come up with a different remedy because this is exactly what I do not want to do… how does a antivirus program stop updating from wkst’s (11 wkst)?
