Avast, Windows 10 and firefox problem with secure serve access

After upgrading to window 10 I started having problems connecting to Google search and email I tracked it down to the problem being avast, as I was able to connect once I turned of the shields.

Here the weird part I added https://.google.com. to the exclusion list which enabled the site to load. But I just now went back and deleted the exclusion so I could post the error page here but now it’s still working even with the exclusion removed??

This seemed to be a problem only with firefox as chrome and edge worked fine.

I’ve experienced this issue with both Windows 10 and Windows 7 Enterprise and the only reliable fix is to disable the Active SSL scanning in 2 locations. First open the Avast! user interface, then click on Settings > Active Protection and make the following 2 changes:

  1. Web Shield > Click ‘Customise’ Link> Unitick the ‘Enable HTTPS scanning’ option > click OK

  2. Mail Shield > Click ‘Customise’ Link > Click ‘SSL scanning Option’ on left > Untick the ‘Scan SSL connections’ option > click OK

Avast should fix this problem, turning off the scanning leaves my system vulnerable and for this reason I will not be renewing my subscription

Hope this helps all those out there that cannot search Google or access other regular HTTPS protected websites

Thanks for the reply but I haven’t had any problems once I add https://google.com.* to the web exclusion list by going to . settings, active protection, Web shield customize, exclusion, Urls to exclude.

Once I added the site I checked to make sure I was able to access with out problems then I went back and deleted the Url from the exclusion list and I was still able to access the sites.

This way I’m not turning off any shields. This is some kind of glitch that they should look into .

I was having similar issue with Facebook not working getting the “secure access server” error.

Doing:

Web Shield > Click ‘Customise’ Link> Unitick the ‘Enable HTTPS scanning’ option > click OK

Fixed my issue.

You may not be turning off the shield but you are certainly putting a gaping hole into it.
Turn of https scanning instead.
