Avast windows startup

I could not find any recent post about it, only from like 2008 and older. But im looking for a way to disable avast when i startup my computer. The only way i know how to is to disable it on “ctrl+alt+del > startup” tab but it wouldn’t disable it. i cant find anywhere to do it on the avast program itself. is it possible to do so?

Obviously in an antivirus program it isn’t going to be a simple operation to disable it by malware.

What is the purpose/reason of/for disabling it on startup ?

100% disk usage. looked up some solutions online and its better now, but avast still at times brings this up to 100. makes my startup and cpu slow, i doubt i need on all the time, only when i decide to do something suspicious.

this post https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=40567.0 here says they were able to do it back in 2008 but unless im an idiot, that got rid of that option?

An AV to be effective need to monitor your system all the time.
Yesterdays safe site could be todays hacked and unsafe site.
Looking at articles from 13 years ago doesn’t really make any sense.
Lots of things have changed in 13 years.

i was really just wondering if that option was still there, or any other option i can look into. but fair point on not everything is safe

There is no option to totally turn Avast off. The best you can accomplish is to pause the shields.

It could certainly be done in XP, not sure if it works on later OS’s

Avast settings/troubleshooting/disable self protection
Windows msconfig, disable the avast service and startup program. (changes the Windows startup to “selective”)
Restart the system

using that method the best they have is delay on startup, but i guess thats good enough. thank you both for the feedback
