I have no idea what is happening except that I am pulling my hair out! As much as I love this program when it’s working, God help you when you have a problem. The taskbar ball next to the clock is gone.
I called Dell for a question because this abominable New IE is the slowest damn thing I’ve ever seen, so he did a remote and wiped everything out of the taskbar with a quick sweep of his arm, and I’ve been re-installing ever since. When I went to check on the Avast Ball to make sure all the programs are running, as far as I know, they aren’t. The bits and pieces of information I was able to discern were that
I had 6 viruses of Klez, or do I? There’s no database, and according to the scan nothing can be scanned because everything is passport protected. Wrong. not the archives. Everything. I tried downloading again, but it wasn’t the same as mine. I have the 4.7 Home Edition running on Windows XP B130. I tried downloading a new program…should I uninstall befofre I re-install?
I’ve been doing this for 3 hours. I finally ran the CCleaner to wipe off what I’d started. It won’t take the update, because I have the update. I sent a post to support, my skin says off, off, off. I’ve never been able to find my way back to a question in this forum so I’ll try this last time. Thanks for anyone who can make sense of this. I am a migraine-addled mess. Thanks. choux
- Check the option in the Appearance tab of settings.
or - Repair your avast installation through Control Panel.
or - Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder (this is the easier workaround).
or - Add the path to ashDisp.exe into a value named avast! in the Windows Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
If that does not help, please, uninstall, boot, install again, boot.
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc.?
I just wanted to say that I un-installed, rebooted, re-installed, re-booted, re-registered and rebooted. Everything is working again, and now I know how to get in and out of the Forum. Thank you very much. I appreciate your support ~ choux
