Avast won't allow internet access

Hi!

I had avast for a few months & had to delete it as part of troubleshooting for a problem I’m having… when I reloaded the Avast 4.7 Home edition I find that I cannot access the internet. I stop it & I get the internet… I guess it stops viruses if I can’t get connected but I have a feeling that isn’t the way it’s supposed to work…, Before I dump Avast - can anyone PLEASE help?

seawitch ???

what firewall are you using? Does it allow ashwebsv.exe access. Since you installed a new version, the avast component have probably changed.

I’m just using the standard firewall that came w/Windows XP. I am moderately comuter literate. What can I do to fix?

What was the problem you were troubleshooting which you uninstalled avast for ?

Is it possible that this problem may be related ?

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

What other security software do you have installed ?

Thanks for writing … but I got it fixed. Terminated something — I forgot what -

The original problem was I can’t get into my WebCT class through my school web site., Its’ where the course is held. In fact I just quit that class & am dropping from that school because the rest of my classes are all on-line classes. BellSouth couldn’t do anything, School couldn’t do anything & HP couldn’t do anything. I have no access. Think of it this way… you can get into the school building but the classroom is locked from you. Out of 1400 students I’m the only one with the problem. Figures. But I have avast now & feel better for it.

No problem, glad the problem is now resolved.
