I have the AVAST package while I downloaded the Free AVAST for my sister computer. Every time she brings up Firefox, the AVAST kicks in and says she has a virus. I ran a complete scan and AVAST found nothing and said everything was clean. Ran the computer again… same thing, AVAST pops up every 15 seconds with a virus worning. This doesn’t seem to happen with I.E. however. I dont know if it’s a false alarm or what?
While I appreciate that, it seems that if many people are getting a false positive from Firefox, it should be well known and a simple fix no? My real question then is… “are there a lot of people getting a false positive when using Firefox”? I’d like to know that before I delve into the black hole of repairs.
The best thing you can do is when it happens is to do a screen capture of the avast alert and attach it in your next post.
That will give us something to work with, but if there is any doubt of there being something on your sisters system then more detailed analysis tools will be required to gather the data as in the link Eddy gave.
I have rarely had a false positive and I use firefox exclusively, so I doubt it is well known (they are for the most part different) and thus not a simple fix.
