avast won't do updates?

my avast VS isn’t able to download automatically updates and it keeps saying errors.

is aast now having problems or is it me?

may be your firewall’s settings are blocking avast! from updating, also can you please check your avast! version? you can download the lates version 4.7.844 from avast! website.

When does this occur, just after logon or any automatic update fails?

Can you try changing (or adding) AlwaysConnectedWaitSeconds value into the [InetWD] section of avast4.ini file.
You could set the number of seconds to wait before attempting to update. The default is 30 but it may not be enough in some DSL systems. In this case, you can try increasing this e.g. to 60 (1 minute). That should be enough.
