Avast won't install on Vista x64 Ultimate

Hello!

I have heard great things about Avast and was going to try it on my new computer (Vista x64 Ultimate, 6 Gig RAM, i7 920 Processor, 2 TB HD).

I have tried to install avast at least 10 times now to my E:\ drive. It installs and gets to say “VBS” on the installer, a window pops open for a split second in the upper left of my screen, then I get an error that avast Update has stopped working and in the error report it mentions the problem is “StackHash_b45f”. I then have to reboot into safemode to use the avast removal tool, because I can’t delete any of the files it installed and avast doesn’t show up as being installed (so cannot be removed).

My vista has been updated to SP2. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

For whatever reason, the only way I got it to install was in the default location. Trying to change it to the drive that I have my programs on caused the error.

Hope this info helps some people. I am surprised that there would be a problem, since the installer allows you to enter a different location.

it worked on 64 bit here!
