avast! wont install

:frowning: i have downloaded avast! for the 4th time and after i reboot my computer after installing avast!, the avast icon is not in my taskbar. when i try to double click on the avast program on my desktop an error message pops up saying the application failed to initialize properly (0x0000005)

what should i do to fix this and get avast running?

Error 5 means access denied…
Which version of avast are you using?
On which folder are you installing it?

i have installed Avast V.4.7.844 latest edition

it was installed on the defualt avast install folder durign the setup

Please, help us guess what’s happening…
Which other security programs do you have? Any other antivirus?
Which operational system do you have?

Can you follow this?

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot
  3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation (read http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_uninstall_util.html)
  4. Boot
  5. Install again
  6. Boot

well i did have macfee, but i got rid of that a long time ago. i have spybot search and destroy and ad-adware se

could left over macfee items be causeing this ?

in the add remove control pannel, when i try to uninstall avast and i click next to further uninstall it the uninstall window disappears. so it wont let me uninstall

There may be some remnants of McAfee left behind (it could be registry legacy keys, etc.), I believe there is a manual removal tool/instructions on their web site.

Also both AdAware and Spybot S&D have resident elements (if user activated), AdWatch (if you have the paid for AdAware) and TeaTimer with Spybot S&D. These can block the creation of startup entries, if they are present in your system disable them and try to reinstall again following Tech’s list.

If it won’t let you uninstall (possibly because of a failed install), download and use the uninstall utility.

ok im folowing techs list right now

it still has failed to initialize properly

i guess ill try naother antivirus program because avast seems to not be working with my computer
