Avast wont install

Avast Premier started coming in with some shields down after rebooting.
Having read on this forum best solution, i decided to get the latest avastclear.exe go into safemode and uninstall Premier. The first time i ran the uninstaller i got an error message (Fatal error upon loading installer executable 159:32, 254:0, 214:0, 259:0,)
I ran avastclear.exe twice more under safemode with no further errors.
Rebooted into normal and tried to install avast premier with offline installer.
i appear to be stuck in some kind of loop now as when i try to install Premier, after a while it errors out with the message (Avast installer cannot continue because the last Avast operation was performed without restarting. Please reboot your computer first then run the installer again) obviously i have rebooted several times no change.
I do get a view log button, when pressed the log viewer does load but its empty.
I am on Windows 8 which is kept up to date.
before i go off trying all sorts of stuff, thought i would ask for advice, especially as i am now unprotected.

Malwarebytes is installed

That can be a problem.

  • Remove MBam completely
  • Remove avast completely (all folders, files, registry entries)
  • Reboot
  • Cleanup the system (You could use CCleaner for it)
  • Reboot
  • Try to install avast with the off-line installer for the latest version (You might even try with the latest Beta)

Uninstalled Malwarebytes
Removed all files folders registry entry for avast i could find
rebooted …no change
ccleaner ran till nothing to remove from either file system or registry
rebooted…no change
The same error (Avast installer cannot continue because the last Avast operation was performed without restarting. Please reboot your computer first then run the installer again)
No matter how many times i reboot this happens.
Presumably there is a setting somewhere that is telling avast i haven’t rebooted.
Any ideas ?

Unfortunately when setup errors i view log and there is nothing to view on any setting Debug, Info, Notice, Warning, Error, or Fatal.
If it helps when i click on the drop down box Component there is nothing in any boxes.
Long and short there isn’t a setup log to send.
i wondered about trying your earlier suggestion trying the beta offline installer but couldn’t find it do you have a link.
Maybe that’s worth a try.

Perhaps not viewable through the interface, but there should be a log.
Look for a log or report folder from avast and check.

Solved
Turned out to be a remnant of AVG antivirus still running in the background.
I had some problems about a month ago and used a couple of free antivirus programs to help flush out the culprit.
Having successfully done that without realising it my shields had been compromised on my avast installation. When i uninstalled Avast fully intending to reinstall an AVG remnant in my startup prevented me from re-installing my avast.
As is always the case once you know what the problem is its simple to cure.
deleted the startup entry and file lurking in my windows directory and rebooted and avast installed perfectly, i rebooted again to see if the original problem had gone and everything is fine my shields are on as they should be.
