Avast wont let my tablet sleep

I was thinking this was a hardware problem so i did a complete datawipe and installed nothing. I let it run for a few hours like this, and it managed to go into sleep properly. Screen, Wifi, and CPU all turned off.

After installing only avast (and enabled whitelist firewall with no exceptions), i noticed when it goes to ‘sleep’ it is only turning off my screen and wifi. It leaves the CPU running to consume battery.

Notice in the second half (where i installed avast) how WiFi turns off. Screen turns off, but its still “Awake”. The first half is when i didnt have avast installed, and everything turned off.

Also look at the battery level. It is stable for the first half, and then degrades noticeably after avast was installed.

Here you can see avast is clearly using the battery more then the screen even. WiFi appears to use lots of battery but only because its percentage based and the tablet is practically unused. Avast appears to use small ammount of battery, but its also doing something to force the tablet to stay awake which is clearly depleting the battery.

Im going to let it run for a few hours with avast stopped, and then again with avast uninstalled and see what that brings.

The reason for my concern is i’ve went through 6 defective tablets so far, and its not really clear if this is a software or hardware problem… I only have a few more days left on my exchange policy so i really want to figure this out

we’ll release an update this week which will most likely fix your problem.

Awesome! This is starting to look like a software problem, and i am glad it is (fixable!). These TF700’s are quite a roulette game. 2 had extremely slow wifi, one with a dead pixel, another with a bent case, one with broken volume controls…

This one seems to be a good one. I was having problems with wifi staying on alllll the time, which is what caused me to initially do the datawipe. Avast seems to be keeping the CPU awake (i hope! lol) and i guess it was another app keeping the wifi on.

Thank you for your quick reply, and thank you! I love the firewall on this, it is very satisfying to have a full linux firewall with a nice gui!

I would love to see another avast widget that simply shows the firewall log. Also exporting the log to a text file would be nice as well.
