ok I have Windows 7 and have downloaded Avast. When I click Desktop Icon the message comes ‘The program cant start because MFC90u.dll
is missing from your computer. Please try reinstalling the program to fix this problem’
Have tried different things and reinstalled but none works
I have checked and I have the missing file in the same place as my brother’s computer
If the file is physically there then it may be that the dll hasn’t been registered, so won’t be running and that may be why it is reported as missing.
What is the location of the MFC90u.dll file ?
EDIT
On my XP Pro system it is in this location (but that may differ on yours):
C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC90.MFC_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30729.6161_x-ww_028bc148\mfc90u.dll
I don’t know if it is related to Microsoft Visual 2008+ (C++ 2008), but the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 installation certainly has the same reference number as in the path to the mfc90u.dll file (x86 9.0.30729.6161).
Have you actually got C++ 2008 Redistributable installed, otherwise you would be getting a different error, ‘side-byside configuration’, etc. ?
I guess you could try reinstalling the C++ 2008 version:
MS Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable.
