Avast Wont Open

Hey everyone…

Actually i got this small problem with my system…my Avast wont open no matter what…i hav to give this run as command and then it opens…and also the tray icons disappeared…i even tried to place the ashdisp.exe file to starup folder but nothing changed…but the main problem is avast wont open and i cant see whether its updating or not…

i tried repairing but nothing happened…and i ever tried to reinstall but but once i unistall it it wont open to install i mean the setup wont open just like when the avast didnt when i was on my comp…

i wish someone could help me with this…thanks in advance…

Also my sys is running in
Windows XP SP2

Do you have MBAM?
Did you send any avast file to MBAM Quarantine?

No dont hav tat one…

Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Ya i tried repair but nothing changed…

ya i did uninstall it…but the next time wen i try to install the setup window wont open…

hmmmm welll i will try to reinstall once again and will let u know…thanks

Hey sorry abt last night i mean it was 2 am in the morning so i couldnt be up…well i tried uninstall / boot / install / boot … but nothing happened same as i told i couldnt open the setup…

so i installed it using run as…and then went to safe mode and tried to remove it again using the avast unistaller from avast… but after unistalling i couldnt install…and wen i try to install it using run as it shows this error…

An error 82(00000052) has occured.Last operation was : extracting main exe

this is the error it showed me when i tried to install using the run as command… thanks in advance…

So, was (or is) there any other AV used before Avast?

No none…i hav been using only avast since i got my system…

I’d try a full reinstall from scratch.
Download the Avast uninstall utility and save it to your desktop. (Note the directions in that link.
Download the full installer file, 36.99Mb from about 1/3 down this page and save it to your desktop. Check your time and date are correct.
Disconnect from the web.
Restart into safe mode, and run the uninstall utility.
Restart into normal, and run the full installer.
(For both those steps, you should run as an administrator, unless you are on an administrator account.)
Once the install has completed, follow the prompts, reconnect and get updates.

If this doesn’t work, it is likely that the problem is caused by malware.

I strongly recommend you download and apply SP3, and all subsequent Windows updates. It (and subsequent updates) have patched many serious security vulnerabilities.

I already tried using tat utility but actually as i said it wont open other than as administrator…and i hav only one account too…and tats the admin account…

ya i did use it in safe mode…but nothing changed…

i tried to scan with malewarebytes and found 3 malware…and i removed them…even after that nothing changes…

so i got a question…like u told me if i instal it using tat run as command and update it the will avast open without using run as command???

thanks in advance

Did you run the uninstaller in safe mode?
If you are already using an admin account, “run as” should not make any difference, I think you have some kind of malware. (Sorry to say, not really surprised if Windows is not up to date :'(.)
Would you want to post a HijackThis log? I’m semi(home) -skilled in reading them, not trained. But there are users here who know quite a bit about them.
I’m about to go to bed, but you get HijackThis from MajorGeeks, install it to its own folder in C:\Program files , and have it scan and produce a log. Attach the log as a .txt attachment (see “additional options” to the bottom left of the forum reply window), if you choose to do this.

Don’t fix anything. Most of the entries will be valid. Let someone look at it first.

Can you also post the MBAM scan report, please?

Last reply edited. Edit in bold. Sorry.

ya i did it in safe mode…if its a malware wouldnt it affect one or more software…but this happens only to avast and everything else is fine…and more to tat i just formatted the system…actually i got this error a few days back so i formatted it…and then i tried to install…avast but the proble was still there…

ok i will post the mbam report…ok thanks…hav a good sleep…bye and takecare

Here is MBAM Log report…

And here is Hijackthis Log

Sorry, that HijackThis log is no good.
You need to install the program to the program files folder on the same disk the OS is on, not onto your “documents and settings” folder.
