Hi, I downloaded avast today and did the boot scan. I noticed too late that the avast site was in with the sites with the virus’ and now avast won’t run. I tried the “fix it” button but it still won’t work. Any suggestions? thanks!
I noticed too late that the avast site was in with the sites with the virus.....???
First have you uninstalled any previous used AV program ?
Have you tried avast repair and reboot
For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
No this is the first time I’ve tried avast. Thanks for the advice. I’ll try it and if that doesn’t work I’ll be back. Jenna
It says it was updated but I still have a huge red X and it says it is Unsecured and I hit the fix it button on the avast page and nothing happens. It says Urgent: avast service stopped. ???
Did you completely remove your previous anti virus? Are you using any other real time security? Are you using any sort of 3rd party firewall? Which version of Avast are you currently running?
I had Defender Pro 5 from last year but it quit working or expired. The avast was working fine until I did the boot scan and that’s when I noticed that somehow the avast file was on the virus list and sent to the chest or whatever it’s called. After that,it stopped working.
Did you ever uninstall Defender Pro 5? If not thats a big no no.
You cannot have 2 antivirus (AV) software on your machine at the same time or this will create all kinds of problems and may prevent another AV from working properly. The fact that you still have an old AV on your machine is now creating problems for Avast, so you need to uninstall the Defender Pro.
Defender Pro actually is Kaspersky Security rebranded and sold in a package with some junk utilities. Kaspersky’s removal tool is even one of the solutions suggested by Defender Pro support to deal with this kind of situation.
-
Please run the Kaspersky’s Uninstaller Tools: http://support.kaspersky.co/faq/?qid=208279463, then reboot your machine.
-
If you have problems with Avast after this, then run the Avast Repair:
- Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
- Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
- Reboot.
- If the Avast Repair does not fix your problem, then you may need to uninstall and do a clean install of Avast using Avast’s Uninstaller Tool http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear6.exe.
Let us know how you do.
In your next post, let us know the following:
A. What version of Avast did you install?
B. What product of Avast did you install? Free, Pro, AIS?
C. What other security software do you currently have or did you have in the past on this machine including:
- Firewall (FW)
- Trial versions of AV, FW and other security programs
- Other security software
- If they were in the past, how did you remove them (the vendor’s uninstaller’s tool or another way)?
Thank you.
