Avast won't scan

I have a recurring problem with my Avast free version of software. I have been getting a message when I try to scan my computer that says “Unable to start scan. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper” I have run the repair option and repaired the software and it will work for a while and then start with the message again. What can I do besides uninstall the software and install it again?

I am using version 12.3.2280(build 12.3.3154.22) of the Avast software. The operating system on my computer is Windows 10. The only other security software installed on the computer is Windows Defender. McAfee was on the computer when it was purchased but I installed it as I am not a fan of their product.

Did you use the removal tool to remove McAcrap ?

Yes. used Windows removal tool.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.
