Windows XP SP2, Avast Premier and a WIFI connection and Thunderbird and all was well. I installed a driver for ethernet and turned off the wifi adapter all seemed well but I noticed Avast was not showing data throughput and it was still saying connected to the wifi adapter and not the ethernet. Using ASWclear and reinstalling Avast fixed the adapter recognition and data graphic but now Thunderbird will not send or receive emails. I have reinstalled and cleared passwords.
Start with installing SP3 and ALL updates released after that.
Report back here when you have done so.
Thanks I thought to try to install Avast while Thunderbird is running. Then Thunderbird asked me to permanently confirm security exception. So I did and now it works.
But I’ve turned on wifi and pulled the ethernet cord and the firewall still says connected to DSL Marvell Yukon, though the data graphic is working. I wonder if SP3 would fix that.
But isn’t it a bit worrying if Avast allows more facets of programs already running during Avast installation?
