avast wont start or do a boot scan

Hi,

I am attempting to fix a friends laptop that appears to be full of viruses. I installed avast 4.8 home but when I click the icon, the program doesn’t start. I have un-installed, and re installed but makes no difference. It also won’t do the boot scan.

Probably the infections are avoiding correct avast installation.
You need to get clean before.
Read the instructions, download and burn (maybe from another computer), finally use one of this rescue CD’s:

  1. Dr. Web
  2. Avira
  3. BitDefender
  4. Kaspersky
  5. F-Secure
