About a month ago, I was having issues with Avast and an update. With the update it shut down my whole computer to the point that needed to be re register my system. We thought we had it fixed but when I re installed Avast, it stipped my computer from shutting down. Through a few suggestions and help from Essexboy, he shared with me Avast beta,Asked me to try it. I have been using it but no matter what I did, it was always telling me my firewall was down. I contacted the forum to see if it was a problem in the Beta, but its never changed.
Today, I wanted to go back to my Avast that I pay for. I used the Avastclean to remove the Beta Avast. Reboot and I reinstalled my licensed Avast.
Now… I have restarted my computer 4 times, each time I have a different issue. Avast is not working every time. It wont start ( pic attached) it states firewall is off, and or it blocks my WIFI so I can do nothing. If I have WIFI from the start of my computer, when I try to ‘start now’ Avast background is not running. It shuts down my WiFi.
Does anyone have any thoughts on whats going on?
Please help!
Thanks, Tammy!

Combofix ran and log is attached.
Avast Icon gone. Went into programs to Open it, still shows not working. Tried to start it, Nothing!
Icon wont stay on bottom tool bar where its always been.
I went to shut down my computer, window of 'program is running ’ wont allow system to shut down.
could not use screen shot to catch the program, all I caught was (sy … some capitol letters than small)
system counted down and sat back on shutting down.
Prior to using Avast Beta, this was the issue I was having. My system would not shut down.
This is the first time it has done this since the reinstall of my Avast.
I force shut down , waited a few minutes to turn back on. Now Avast is on , Protected.
I am completely lost!
Computer is still not running smoothly. Windows states I have no virus protection on.
Could try running “sfc /scannow” but that may also not be enough. It really isn’t that bad or hard to start over.
It’s one of those cases where even a recently created image may not be a good idea.
Thanks for all the words of advice.
I cant say I have ever reinstalled windows but I will try to figure out how.
As for the scf scan and the chkdsk scan. Neither one would stay Open when I right clicked to open. The window would flash quickly and be gone. the sfc scan wont even stay open as Admin. the chkdsk would allow me Admin but would disappear the minute it was done. Took me a few times to get a screen shot. I have attached the results.
No I did not receive a disc with the purchase of my computer. I have been looking into how and where to buy one. Finances just arent available for me to purchase, lost job.
The reinstall is the obvious thing I need to do to fix my issues. Or is there anything else that could be done?
I do have recovery d drive. it is used to 90%. I can honestly say, I am not a Wiz on exactly what my d drive does.
I know its a back up or something? ( i feel like a moron not knowing)
Ha ! you are going to tell me just to throw it away. I know its old, but it has been working very good. Few little glitches here and there but nothing major before Sept , when Avast did an update and my Windows came back not Genuine and knocked down my computer. You helped me with some of it, had me install Avast Beta.
Its a Gateway, Model W 6501 with Vista Home Premium.
Okay, that is a full recovery!
I was thinking it wouldnt have to me so major.
If I do a back up wont the same issues arise when i turn my computer back on?
I dont have much for thinking today… What am I going to lose? I would imagine all my files ( Docs, pics ) need to be transferred to an external drive or disc. But what else?
