This morning after starting up my computer, I got a pop up from Avast! warning me that it tried to update the definitions but failed. I tried to do it manually, but although it at first looks like it updates, it says "Already up to date (current version 130731-0) but under “download files” it shows 2 (0.00 KB) and back on the Summary page, it still shows the yellow exclamation point and virus definition version 130730-1. Any ideas? ???
Repair avast!:
- Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → avast!
- Click on ‘Repair’.
- Follow instructions.
- Reboot.
Worked like a charm! I’m glad I learned about that, and can’t believe I never knew about that before.
You’re welcome.
I guess answer to everything is repair or clean installation of Avast.
You don’t need to repair Avast.
I experienced the same thing a few hours ago and now it is fine.
Virus definitions version is 130731-0 .
I think it was some glitch with server or something.
Also Virus Update History is not updated last 3 days.

Sometimes is OK to say that it is Avast fault.
If you would read the OP’s post you will see that after a “failed” auto vps update he tried to do a manual update which also failed.
In this case a “repair” was a wise choice. In many cases a repair will fix problems/issues. 8)
