avast won't work until I click to start it

When the computer is just started, avast icon shows a red cross.

I remove it with aswclear5 under the safe mode, and installed again the 5.1.889 version, but it doesn’t work. No virus was found but only a few avast files couldn’t be scanned.

What should I do now?

What OS are you running? What Firewall are you using? Any other security software installed? Did you have other Anti-Virus installed in the past and if so, how did you uninstall. For example, did you use the venders uninstall/Clean-up tools?

Hi schmidthouse, I think of the software management tool, which functions partly as a firewall but I never pay any attention to it. I removed both in the safe mode just now and installed avast again, then everything turns all right. Thanks very much for your kind reply and help~
