hey everyone. im new around here. i have some questions about program compatibility. i know some programs dont play nice with others. well basically here is the setup i have in mind. im running windows xp pro sp2. my firewall is outpost pro version 4.0.1007.7323(591). now as for the rest of my security apps im gonna break it down into two groups resident(realtime) and on demand. for resident im gonna be running avast pro for av and either spybot or ad aware for antispy. and for on demand ill be running either spysweeper or spyware doctor. now you may be thinking why so many security apps. well spybot and adaware seem much lighter compared to spysweeper and spyware doctor but the last two have better detection rates. now i know this is an avast forum so im not gonna ask how well they all play with each other but how well does each of these play with avast or is there anything that i need to do to get them to play better with each other (special settings ect.)? any help would be greatly appreciated. thankx in advance.

p.s. if anyone has better suggestions as far as the spyware progs go by all means please bring it up.
They play nice each other.
I really don’t see much use to use the ‘light’ antispyware as resident (because you’ve already said: low detection rates).
I’ll use them as on-demand only.
But, if you bough spysweeper and spyware doctor… well, only one of them as resident will do a great job.
Other suggestions? For sure AVGas and a-squared (both free and good detection rates). I never used payed antispywares…
As far as I can see, Avast! Antivirus does not have any compatibility issues with (while I run them):
-Spybot Search & Destroy
-Ad-Aware SE Personal
Other antispyware programs you might choose to add, and I haven’t seen compatibility issues with:
-Windows Defender (this program adds free resident protection, I’ve stuck with it and I recommend it, but a lot of users do not recommend it. Try it, it may suit you fine.)
-Spyware Terminator (haven’t tried this out myself, so compatibility is unclear, but does add resident protection like Windows Defender, and it does have better user recommendations)
-AVG Anti-Spyware (you can add this for stronger anti-trojan detection/removal for on demand scanning)
-A-Squared Free (also better on demand anti-trojan scanning, but I find that it take pretty long to complete a full scan, way longer than average antispyware products)
-SpywareBlaster (works like Spybot’s immunization feature, but covers certain Mozilla Firefox areas and immunizes more sites/cookies/etc.)
Well, thats about all I can say for more antispyware programs. But, in case if you were wondering about more security programs, check out/search the programs in my signature. They all work out great !!
I too use Outpost 4.0 but 971 (584) build, I haven’t updated to the 1007 (591) build as I have been monitoring the various issues with the .1005 update. The only thing I would advise is to disable the OP anti-spyware plug-in, it really slows down boot times as it scans many hundreds of files and because it wants to open files for scanning avast will intercept and scan them also.
If you are considering other anti-spyware applications there is even less reason to have the OP anti-spyware plug-in (which is based on AdAware) enabled. The only OP Plug-in I have enabled is Attack Detection, basically I want my firewall to be just that a firewall.
id like to thank every one for there input its greatly appreciated. tech yea ive been considering buying either spysweeper or spyware doctor because of the high detection rate but i can use either one as resident due to the high memory usage. not too sure about spysweeper but spyware doctor was using over 70 mb ram when i had it resident and thats just too much for my taste. happy dude i d/l the softwares you suggested as well as everyone in your sig. they all seem pretty decent. however a few are capable of being resident is there anyone that you suggest using as resident over the other?
