Avast! writes errors in XP event log while copying files to a NAS-Server

Hello Avast Fans!

Basic situation:
[]Windows XP Prof. SP3
[
]A connected network storage device from QNAP (NAS-Server)
[]Access to the NAS-Server and its shared folders via Windows Workgroup
[
]User rights to the shared folders are managed inside the NAS-Server
[]In Windows the network access data to the shared folders are managed in the windows user account configuration
[
]Avast! antivirus Home Edition v4.8.1356

Problem:
Always when I copy a file to a share folder on the NAS-Server the antivirus tool writes a scanning warning and error into the windows event log. Two screenshots from the windows event log are inside the attachment of this message. I think the avast! warnings and alarms are concerned with the user rights to NAS-Server and the shared folders on it.

Questions:
[]What means AAVM - scanning warning/error: x_AavmCheckDirectEx with return code: 0000052E (see screenshots in the attachment)?
[
]How can I prevent these warnings and errors?

Regards
Avast!Fan

Have no one an idea to solve the issue? :frowning:

Keine Antwort? :frowning:
Jetzt drücke ich Avast! in die Tonne und installiere AntiVir Personal. Das habt ihr von eurer Redseligkeit.

Hasta la vista avast!

Does the error only happen with that one file (the office file converter)?

I don’t know what that error means, but it has a 5 in it, so it makes me think that it’s permissions related (I could be totally wrong about that).

Have you tried to re-download the files again to see if your file is corrupt somehow?

I’ve got no clue other than that.

On each file I copy to the NAS the anti-virus tool writes the messages in the XP event log. The office file converter is an example only. This happens simply if the avast! standard module (On-Access module) is activated and this happens only if files are saved to the NAS. Saving on internal HD or external USB drives the avast! anti-virus tool works fine.

Hasta la vista avast! >:(

I have done it. Microsoft Security Essentials is my new favourite! No problems to scan network drives with this nice tool. :-*

By the way, I contacted the Avast! support. The answer is:

Hello,

error 0x0000052E (1326) stands for “Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.” - in general you can encounter such errors for all avast! services running under “LOCAL SYSTEM” account when accessing shared folders etc… (in this case the process logs on with null credentials because “LOCAL SYSTEM” account is not approved to access network resources).

No suggestion how to solve the problem. :-[ Thank you Avast! support!

Well, I guess you can give “LOCAL SYSTEM” access to those files. Otherwise, it won’t be able to scan them, and you’ll get the errors.
