Avast wrongly identifying device?

I have a game console that shows up with the wrong identification during Wi-Fi Inspector scans. It is a Nintendo system, but it shows up as a Microsoft Xbox. It identified it correctly before today, and I don’t see anything else wrong. Is there something innocuous to explain why this would happen?

Using Avast free on Windows 7 Home Premium SP1.

Any idea why this would happen? There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with my computer, no viruses or malware turning up in scans. Doubt anything could be wrong with the game console. Does the scan just recognize it’s a game console and somehow get which one wrong now? In the router settings it correctly identifies it BTW.

I’ve never used an Xbox system on my internet.

Were you able to verify by check the mac addresses? If the MAC address of the detected device(Xbox as you mentioneD) matches your Nintendo’s MAC address then AVAST should do something about it.

They match. Were you saying to do this to be absolutely sure what was happening or are you suggesting that if they did match that means something is very wrong?

Also, I repaired avast, rebooted, everything I’ve tried it still keeps coming up as a Microsoft Xbox, though only in avast and not in the router’s settings.

It’s a way to identify certain cause or possibilities why it’s happening.
Btw, what Nintendo device are you using?

So… is there a reason you asked what the device was?
