In the past 2 months, I’ve been using Avast! anti-virus. Then I left for vacation for a whole week, and my brother tried to “remove” Avast! because he couldn’t play the game he wanted. Well, since he ruined my Avast!, I noticed that it was not completely "removed’. There was still Avast! on my computer and I thought, why not just remove it all and reinstall it? I tried to do that, but It wouldn’t let me. I then used IOBIT UNINSTALLER program to remove Avast!, but it didn’t fully remove it. It was still in PROGRAM DATA. When I noticed it was still there, I used the Uninstall utility, when I double clicked it, it says I need to disable self protect through Avast! or do it through Safe Mode. I couldn’t do either because 1) Avast!.exe doesn’t seem to be there. 2) I can’t start it through Safe Mode because whenever I try to go to safe mode, it says “SYSTEM ERROR, System Fan has failed! Press F2 to continue.” Then It would normally start the computer. So then I thought if Avast! is just in the Folder “PROGRAM DATA” it must left over things. So I proceeded in downloading avast! again. This time when I attempted to re-install Avast! I get this message : “An error (0) (00000000) has occurred. Last performed action was:spawning.”
Can someone help me fix this please?
Thank you so much!
ok, for a start that indecator for your fan doesent sound good.
next can you click on start then click on control panel and then click on programs and features. can you find avast in there,if you can right on it and click repair.
Please try again the safemode ( f8 while booting the system ) and run the removal tool which can be downloaded here http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe, if possible run the tool for all versions of avast ever installed before performing a re-install.
If none of that is possible are you able to restore to a point before your brother messed with the system?
On a side note! iobit is a corrupt company so any of there products would not come anywhere near my system and you should never use third party uninstallers ( Iobit, Revo ) to remove security products as they can totally mess things up even more which is highly likely what happened here, there are also removal tools available from here http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ to help remove remnants of other AV’s you may have used in the past or present.
