Avast2014 is clashing with Zonealarm and blocking my internet connection

The active shields (web and mail) when enabled in conjunction with my Zonealarm firewall are blocking my internet connection. If I turn off Zonealarm, connects fine. OR if I leave zonealarm on and disable the web shield, connects fine. Just cannot run both together or it’s getting blocked, and since I WILL NOT leave my system unprotected by a firewall, I’m left with disabling Avast web and mail shields.

Has any other zonealarm, or other firewall, users encountered this with the new version of Avast, and if so, could you share the resolution?

In zone Alarm remove all references to Avast, then as you are asked allow them again

Okay, I tried removing all references to avast in the program list, reenabled the mail and web shields and restarted.

Avast is STILL interfering with the internet connection.

Any other ideas?

Drop ZA and use another free FW.
