Avast32 3.0 will be discontinued as of February 1,2006.
Here is what alwil said.
“The version has now been superseded by avast! 4 Home Edition and Professional Edition; virus database updates for this Edition will cease on February 1st 2006. This download is now unsupported, users still relying on this Edition for their sole antivirus protection should upgrade to avast! 4 before February 2006 in order to maintain their antivirus protection against the latest threats.”
Sooner or later, all us old Folks (Programs) die off and the newer Generation (Version) takes over.

I agree with Bob, nothing last forever. One of the good things is that they offer avast! 4 free for Home and Non-commercial users.

Of course for new Generations to take over, old Generation must guide them to survive before they move on. Next Generation barely survives without guidance and support. Unless they have a book call Next Generation for Dummies (Assuming that we can all read without practice at all). ;D
Well i see only good in this. It’s time to leave obsolete stuff and give all the priority to actual software (avast! 4.6 and later). This means they’ll have more time developing avast! 4 and more time for virus devinitions.
I agree with all of you. I don’t know why they have kept virus definitions going for this program if you can just upgrade free. I don’t understand why people would be using old software when they can get the new and improved one free.
Why Alwil are still updating avast32 ? :
In the mesagge on the web site is saying that the updates will stop on 01.02.2006.

Sometimes it is hard to let go, (not for companies like Microsoft or Symantec though lol) but maybe that is the last update.
As of Feb. 7th 2006 it is still being updated… humm… I think this thing is going to live forever… ;D
Eh, just trash the prehistoric avast! 3.0 and focus all the work to avast! 4.x.
You warned the users so no problem here. I know i’d trash it on 1.2.2006…

Well it seems all updates have finaly stopped for 3.0! Just take a look on the avast! homepage the last update was 16.2.2006
