Avast4 and Mailwasher

I am news to Avast4 which I just downloaded and installed to try it.

I use Mailwasher to screen my incoming email before downloading the messages I want to my PC via Outlook Express. Also I only have dialup not broadband.

Although I have a fast PC (Pentium 4, 2.66GHz, 512 RAM) Avast4 significantly slows down the Mailwasher downloads of headers. (Mailwasher does not actually download those emails. It just lets me delete those that are spam before I download those I want).

Is there a way I can cofigure Avast4 to NOT screen Mailwasher activity but to continue to check Outlook Express activity when I actually download the messages?

Yes, you will need to edit (any text editor) the avast4.ini file (C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini) and add an entry to it.

In the MailScanner section add the IgnoreProcess entry.

[MailScanner]
IgnoreProcess=MailWasher.exe

If there is alread an IgnoreProcess line place a comma after the program file/s and add MailWasher.exe
