:frowning:

Hiello,I downloaded Avast4 for home use yoday and right after I re-started my computer it did its scan and froze my computer,it wont do anything now except turn on and off,can someone please help me please ? I have windows xp.
Thanks
Dawn

The easiest thing is to start XP in safe mode and deinstall Avast again, or if you know what you doing, remove the entries of Avast in the Startup settings of the Registry, by using MSCONFIG.

dawns6,

donā€™t you have any products from Symantec (Norton) installed on the machine? avast! has known incompatibility with most Symantec system software (antivirus, firewall etc.).

Also, donā€™t you have any other antivirus program installed? Do you have a firewallā€¦ if you do, which one?

Or any other low-level stuff that could interfere with avast?

Thanks
Vlk

I cant even get to anything now as all my computer will do is turn on and off and thats it,It wont even take my start-up disc, any help please Iā€™d greatly appreciate it
thanks Dawn

Just a wild guess. Did you try to plug out the Powercable and than start the Computer and than plug in the cable again? Are you able to enter the BIOS? What kind of computer do you have?

It seems nothing to have to do with avast .

I havent tried the plug but I will, I have a Dell Inspiron 2650 with windows xp.
It wont let me open anything only start and turn off, cant get bios ?
Do you have any other suggestions ?
thank you
Dawn

Just making sure of a few things.

Dawns6, when you turn on your laptop do you get any picture at all?
Does the system make any beeping sounds?

Or does the system just sit there doing nothing with a black screen?

All I get is my start up screen and then its frozen.I can move my mouse around but not click on anything.Or open any programs.I cant access avast or Norton to delete.
Thank you
Dawn

I canā€™t find how to access the BIOS on your computer, but normally rapidly pressing ā€œdeleteā€ or ā€œF1ā€ or ā€œF2ā€ when you turn the computer on will do it.

If you havenā€™t tried safe mode yet, start you computer and rapidly press ā€œF8ā€, this will give you a menu so you can boot Windows into ā€œSafe Modeā€ and hopefully fix your problem.

As a last resort, you may have to reinstall Windows (without doing a format), in order to fix your problem, or at least so you can back up anything on your computer before you do a format.

Yippee ! And thank you so muchā€¦ .I got her up and running finally. You were so helpful and I really appreciate all of it.
Thank you again,
Dawn
