Has anyone encountered AVAST 4 Home under Windows XP Pro to take a while to shut down? When I shutdown WITHOUT AVAST or with another AV client it usualy shuts down faster.
What I experience is a 10-15 second delay with no hard drive activity…but a Windows XP is now shutting down. THEN, it continues to shutdown and shuts off after an additional 3-5 seconds. This however does NOT happen under Windows 98 SEcond Edition.
Just wondering if this is normal…and why the pause? Does it have something to do with the services being stopped/unloaded?
I don’t get any errors or event viewer logs on this so…I’m assuming it’s normal with AVAST. ???
Probably but I’m not sure… The services (ashserv.exe and the others) must be stopped and this take some time: 3-5 seconds seem normal… 10-15 without activity could be so much… I have a XP and usually does not worry to much on startup and shutdown delays because I’m doing anything else and not ‘looking’ to the computer or waiting ;D
I jumped a few generations of Windows when my old system died a few months ago and I bought a new one.
Generally I find that Win XP (Home) takes forever to shut down on my system compared to 98SE, typically 20 to 30 seconds – but it does start up faster.
And I’m not aware of the shutdown time getting any slower since I first installed avast.
