Avast4.ini & Mozilla Mail & multiple SMTP

I am using Windows XP, Mozilla 1.5 (waiting for next release 1.7) and your Avast! 4.1 home for scanning my emails with Pop and Imap.

The only problem I have, is that I didn’t get multiple SMTP to work.

I can’t get it to work…

The folowing works only with one smptp-server:

DefaultSmtpServer=mail.lalala.net (smptp-server adress)

in Mozilla:

Server-name: 127.0.0.1
port 25
using name and password : yes
login-name: login#mail.lalala.net
ssl: no

But what are the commands I have to set in the Avast4.ini ?

I set:
DefaultSmtp=0
SmtpServer=mail.tralala.net
SmtpServer=mail.lalalal.net

doesn’t work like popServer… that’s all not very logical, really.

Please, help me how I can manage this manual (not with the “wizard” - doesn’t work for me at all) in the Avast4.ini and perhaps Mozilla (if I made a mistake here).

Thank you!

Best regards

Terry

The wizard did not find your accounts ?

The Wizard works for one SMPT (DefaultSmtpServer) but not for 2 or more.

Please, help me how I can manage this manual in the Avast4.ini & Mozilla Mail

Can nobody help? Please… :slight_smile:

Nope… The Wizard works with ‘any’ number of smpt servers… The default is only used for sending files for analysis (for instance, send an infected file from Chest to Alwil for analysis).

I use more than one smpt without problem… Oh, I do not use Mozilla but I think it should work. If I’m wrong, can anybody correct me?

The Mail Protection Wizard

  1. Close your email client (program).
  2. Start Menu > All programs > avast antivirus
  3. Mail Protection Wizard
  4. manual protection (translated)
  5. Chose ‘other email client than Outlook/Exchange’ (i.e., the second option)
  6. there are no accounts to configure… nothing appears

Please:
Describe me how can I fix that, to configure that for multiple SMTP in the Wizard OR
please give me the commands to configure that in the Avast4.ini (SmptServer=names of SMPt-server doesn’t work - what is the command???)

Ok, I have found it - The trick for multiple SMTP:

DefaultSmtpServer=127.0.0.1 ←
SmtpListen=127.0.0.1:25

UseDefaultSmtp=0

I have made the mistake to set the DefaultSmtpServer to one Server or tried the command “SmtpServer” in the ini file.
That didn’t work.

The settings in Mozilla (read above)

in Mozilla:

Server-name: 127.0.0.1
port 25
using name and password : yes
login-name: login#mail.lalala.net
ssl: no

Notice to support:

I can only suggest because there are many, many question about this configurations - to update the help-file.
the help-file is good but incomplete.

And then it’s a good idea to make more stickies about FAQ

Trust me, I know what I am talking about - You have in the future much more time for other things, than to answer (my) stupid questions :slight_smile:

Maybe we could find out why the wizard didn’t find your accounts. Do you have a file named “prefs.js” in such a folder: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\PROFILENAME\XXXXXXXX.slt ?

It works like I wrote above, but if I change the profil like you mentioned to another place (E:\Mozilla\Default…) then the “ashMaiSv.exe” doesn’t start automatically. If I start the program manual from the explorer-shell… my email will be checked.

How can I fix that, that I doesn’t have to start the “ashMaiSv.exe” manual?

Is there a possiblity to tell avast! where the profile is (for example in the avast4.ini) ?

run your mail wizard and start the mail service…

like what technical has explained…the mail wizard will detect all accounts…but will only prompt for a set of pop/smtp servers which are for communication…for eg. sending virus to alwil software

Yes, I ran it three times now and reboot my system - now it works!

great :smiley:

thanks for your patience :slight_smile:
