avast4.ini reset to the default settings after reboot.

Hi to all,

on my PC W2k Sp4 and Avast 4.6.763.
I have the problem that i need to disable the
autoredirect option
in the mailscanner part of the avast4.ini file.
After ever reboot or when
i stop an start the mail provider the avast4.ini file
is reset to the default value.
(the default is autoredirect=1)
I need the setting autoredirect=0 because
i use a antispam tool. This works only if the
autoredirection disabled.

What can i do?

There are others that also use spam tools and it is a matter of setting them up to work in co-operation with avast proxy.

What is your anti-spam program ?

I suggest a forum search for spamihilator and avast as this should give other options, it is also possible to ignore the antispam program so emails aren’t scanned twice. I use MailWasher and that is what I do.

This is just one of the related threads http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=3413.0

@ first thanks for the quick answere.

I check the thread you posted.
My Spamhiliator and Email client are correct configured
like the same as in the thread.
It works! But only if i put the
AutoRedirect value to 0.
When i reboot the machine or restart the provider
the avast4.ini file will jump back to AutoRedirect=1.
thats the problem i have.
What can i do that the value stay at 0??

Thanks.
Regards
CI

Unfortunately I don’t use Spami, so I haven’t had to do this but if you make the changes in avast4.ini and save the changes I can’t see how it would get changed back unless having the redirect on is a requirement.

I had a brief look in the thread I gave the link for but couldn’t find any reference to AutoRedirect. So I don’t think it is that, hopefully someone that uses spamihiliator (Tech) will see the thread. Or do a forum search as I suggested and see what else it there.

You need to stop your providers before making this change, otherwise, while shutting down Windows, the ‘old’ settings are saved over the avast4.ini file.

You should setup everything as if Avast! is not installed (according to Spamihilator help files)

  1. make yourself sure, that spamihilator is really running on port 120 (Settings / Connection in Spamihilator)

  2. in Outlook Express account
    server: 127.0.0.1
    port: 120
    username: mail.anyserver.com&anyuser

  3. For the “POP3 notifier” use:
    username: username
    server: mail.anyserver.com
    port: 110

Thanks Tech, I wasn’t aware of this issue.
