Well I just switched from Kaspersky Personal PRO to Avast4 PRO, I did this change because Kaspersky is VERY harsh on resources. When I scan with Avast4 PRO I don’t think it scans my whole computer, when I click the “Folder Selection” button I click on “My Computer” is it scanning my whole computer or am I mistaken? Also how good is Avast 4 PRO’s detection rating? Thanks in advance.
You can choose to scan all drivers (and not just selected folders).
You can set to scan ‘Archive’ content too.
If you’re using the Professional version, go to the Tasks folder, right click the ‘Disk Scan’ task and change the settings for it.
Difficult to say… Kaspersky is a very good antivirus too.
But I can say you’re very good protected with avast! Pro too.
Welcome and fell free to ask your questions 8)
Is there a way to set the defualt scanning folder rather than me going into Folder Selection everytime I want to scan my computer for viruses?
Where do you want to do it? In Simple User Interface or on the Enhanced User Interface?
In Simple (skin) you must check the icon for Drivers and not for areas (Folder Selection).
You can use ashcmd.exe or ashQuick.exe to make links for scanning…
But better will be scheduling a task to night, with all your settings, virus handling, etc. and just let the computer on…
I did what you said for Simple Skin using the drivers icon, and I restarted Avast and I clicked the button “Scan” (this is the defualt avast! skin) and I said “Hint no areas selected” or something near that?
Hi ColT
The best & easiest way to get Avast to scan is to right click the avast icon & click start Avast, when it has loaded click the drives button, this will cause a slider panel to appear with a sensativity slider & a scan archives checkbox, choose Ur sensativity & whether to scan archives or not & then click the big Play Button.
The way U are doin it the now by selectin folders just means its the folders that get scanned, clickin the drives icon will make avast scan a;; drives

When your running a scan and a virus is found is there a way to prompt the user for action AFTER the scan, I don’t really like it when its scanning and the window pops up asking me to clean the file etc. So is there another way to prompt the user for action AFTER the scan has finished?
Hi.
U can set the standard shield & internet mail provider to silent mode & that should stop the alerts if it finds anything
To do this, left click on the Avast icon to bring up the providers & click more detail, then in standard shield look for the silent mode tickbox (similar idea with mail provider)
Other options to customise the scan findings are only available in the Pro version.
I prefer to leave the alerts alone & to keep an eye on it when it scanning as that way U dont lose a important file being detected as a palse positive.

I have the PRO version.
Hi.
As i said i dont change the defaults on mine but im sure U can use the simple interface to do the same, just open Avast then click the top left & select settings, then look for the option called Actions & choose what actions U want (like move to chest or if that fails delete etc.

If you are talking about “On-access” scans (i.e. not the resident protection), you can simply edit the corresponding task in the Enhanced User Interface. On the “Virus” page, delete the “Interractive” action and keep the box empty. This way, nothing will be performed with the detected malware files. Of course, you’ll be able to perform the actions afterwards, e.g. using rightclick on the infected file in list.
