I recently bought the above upgrade but due to technical problems was unable to activate same, please could somebody help me to retrogressively get my purchase activated.

I suggest you remove your email address as it could get harvested resulting in spam.
Where did you purchase avast4 ?
You should have been sent an email with your license in it.
Then it is just a case of entering the license into the License Key area (about avast), Insert Registration Key - Video.
