There were released a new avast4freebsd-1.0.8beta version:

Too bad, FreeBsd won’t install with the graphic user interface on one of my other systems, or I would have tested this version of Avast.

The beta is now over, the product has been released.
Ah, is there a free version of it? (command line, on demand is what i am looking for)
I only see Avast for Linux/BSD as server edition on the website. What about the home users?
Paying for a good product is not something I mind, but almost 135 Euro a year (or 250 for 3 years) is way too much for a home user, especially compared to Avast Pro.
I agree, i cannot justify the cost for a system running Free where viruses or worms appear every five years, especially when there are other products out there that are free.
I don’t mind paying either, but if i am buying anything i want to buy it, IE, i want the source, otherwise i won’t pay for it.
There should be a workstation edition of avast for Linux coming shortly. And it will likely have a free Home variant.
I’m not sure about BSD, though.
BTW if you only need the command-line scanner, you can use the one from the Linux/Unix Server edition. The command-line scanner works even without a license file.
Hope this helps,
Vlk
Thank you very much Vlk, that does indeed help, what i need is a cron jobbed scan and that is enough for me, system wide security is set to a level that is good enough so all i really need is a simple scan of home folders (should be quick) and a system wide scan about once every six months or so (after major updates).
Now, i only have a couple of more questions, thank you for your patience with me.
Where do i find the download for the on demand command line scanner and how do i get the definition updates?
I don’t need instructions, just an adress to where will be fine.
Thank you.
