Hi all, I was using Avast 4.8, I have updated to avast5 , Now I have an alarm as a virus, but I cannot delete it, it says files not found, The name starts from windows\system Restore .…A0047211.exe I have done all updates but still the problem exist .Does anyone have solution for this. Also plz tell me how to get the details and copy the name of the virus. Thank you .
Hi, we need more information.
Hardware, software etc.
In a nutshell, you have a virus tucked away in your system restore folders, meaning that when a system restore point was created, it saved a virus in there as well.
Avast 4.8 should have picked it up as well. Avast can detect it but cannot delete it, as it has no access to the system restore files.
The only way to get rid of it is to turn off system restore, which should delete all the restore points, reboot, and then turn it back on. Yes, it will delete any chance of reverting to a previous state, but if you used it to restore to a previous state, you would be restoring the virus anyway, and it would still be stored in the restore point.

Thank you , So u mean to say , if I use a system Restore point before installing Avast5 , It will carry the virus.Iam using windows 7 ultimate , Core2 due, 1GB RAM.Plz advice the best way.
I have turn off the restore point , and scan with Avast5 freeAntivirus ,it is still unable to remove it, the file is in Windows\System Volume …\restore …, I still cant a solution.I did install Avast5 over 4.8, I didn’t unistall Avast 4.8.Is there any solution.
did you remember to reboot after turning off system restore?
Yes I did restart after turning off system Restore , I have downloaded new Avast 5 fresh, I will unistall and reinstall, update and try again.
I have uninstalled Avast 5 and installed Microsoft security essential ,Now a trojan downloader was detected and deleted but the stuff(alarm from Avast5 …malware) was not detected,Dont know which one to be trusted.
Also I am just using Revo uninstaller ,Do not know if I have some residue from Avast5 and 4.8.
The problem isn’t with Avast 5. The problem is with the virus being saved in the restore folders. With WinXP, turning off System restore would delete all the restore points.
Now I need to confirm that Win7 operates in the same way. I’m using Win7-64HP here, so I’ll do a bit of digging. I’d still trust Avast over MSE any day.
regards, Gizbar.
Done a little digging. It seems that you are not allowed to access the system restore point manually, even if you are the administrator.
Have a read through here though, it may help you delete older restore points. Still not sure that it will get rid of all of them though.

HTH, Gizbar.
CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com has the ability to delete system restore points, at least in WinXP. When logged in as an administrator, in CCleaner Tools click on the System Restore button. All system restore points will be listed, and any and all but the newest restore point can be deleted. If the infected system restore point is not the latest one, this should work for you.
I have been using Avast 4.8 for many years without serious issues. But the latest Avast 5 free version has 2 nagging problems :
-
It screws up my Taskbar. The launch buttons showed up on the right side instead of the usual left. It also shows two small up and down arrows on the left. The language icon sometimes disappears also.
-
It prompts me disable the SSL on mail client etc… Have no idea what that means. Avast 4.8 never told me to do that.
While I like the new GUI, I hope Avast will sort out the above problems. Using XP SP2 btw.
Also you can delete all restore points in windows using Disk Cleaner from windows, and using advanced options, or windows options, and selecting delete all restore points but the newest. And you will only have the newest restore point.
I never had a problem with avast 4.8 but since I downloaded avast 5 I have had nothing but problems. I noticed that the icon says my computer is not secure. I go and click the fix button but later in find it isnt secure again. I am not very knowledgable about computers. Can anyone help a novice?
Which version of Avast 5, 5.0.396 or older? Free, Pro or Avast Internet Security?
Which OS? WinXP, etc.
What other security software do you have installed and running active?
Have you rebooted after installing? How many times?
These answers will help those more knowledgeable in this forum troublshoot this for you.
For some reasons I kinda miss Avast ,so I will use avast uninstaller ,and install a fresh Avast 5 .This time I will use spybot too and comodo firewall .I have use cleaner ,but Iam afraid to use registry fix from cleaner, becoz last time I use in vista(now windows 7 ), my system had started to crash,Does anyone experience this issue with cleaner.I hope for the best.Thank you guys for your kind support.
Maybe you should try a CLEAN Install for avast 5. I had that issues, but with the latest version 5.0.396, i’m free of issues, just with clean install, but when i do an upgrade from 4.8 to 5, it happens the same as you. My avast stays there, but in my case, it disables the internet. And if i do a clean install, it works.
