Can you give more details.
Why can’t you uninstall the Avast version 10.4.2233 ?
Why doesn’t the avast uninstall utility not work ?
e.g. what errors are you getting and or how are you running the avast uninstall utility.

I’m a pc tech. CompTIA A+.
The normal uninstall (or change) feature does not open.
Avastclear does not open.
There aren’t any error messages when either of those processes are tried. Nothing happens.
I’ve tried both processes in normal mode and safe mode. Both paths give the same result. ZILCH.

Try downloading avastclear again.
Also are you running avastclear from the desktop from safe mode?

After loading safe mode, I ran avastclear.exe from the desktop.
After loading windows in normal mode, I ran avastclear.exe from the desktop.
In both instances, the result is the prgm does not load and does not return any error msgs.

I downloaded a fresh version of avastclear. I ran it from the desktop after booting into safe mode. The result was avastclear did not load. I opened w7 task manager and confirmed avastclear was not running in either the process or application tabs.
I was logged into w7 as administrator.

How do I manually uninstall avast?
I’m planning to use regedit to delete every reference to avast from the registry. If anyone thinks this is likely to result in still not being able to install a new version of avast (and it’s possible someone might help me uninstall avast if I wait longer for an answer) then PLEASE let me know that this is a BAD idea, and that I should wait for the correct answer.
I’m going to start deleting avast from the registry relatively soon.
Will someone please reply?
Anyone?

Hi maxknalp
Look at this tutorial https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
Scroll down to “Farbar Recovery Scan Tool” and follow the directions for that tool only.
Attach both FRST.tx and Additions.txt logs in your next reply.
I will ask our best expert essexboy to help you
As it is late here in Europe, it is possible that you have to wait untill tomorrow.

Thank you. I followed your instructions and I have attached the new log file. When I ran avastclear (from safe mode) it did not open a gui or return any errors. It’s likely avastclear failed to run but judging from Fixlog.txt we made significant progress. It’s quite possible I will need to enable an unknown disabled service before bitsadmin can be called?
No bitsadmin was my error I forgot that it cannot be called in safe mode
Will the new version now install ?

I haven’t tried to install a new version yet because I didn’t want to make any changes that would complicate debugging. Currently, Avast is still listed as installed in control panel, programs and features. Should I try to uninstall it before installing a new version?

but when I tried to install the new version, nothing happens.

Here’s why I can’t install a new version of avast. Using regedit in safe mode there are a series of protected keys which can’t be deleted. … beginning with
HKLM\system\controlSet001\enum\root\legacy_ASWHWID
there 8 keys
legacy_aswhwid
legacy_aswmonflt
legacy_aswrdr
legacy_aswrvrt
legacy_aswsnx
legacy_aswsp
legacy_aswstm
legacy_aswvmm
these keys are duplicated 3 times in
\ControlSet001
\ControlSet002
\CurrentControlSet
