avastclear.exe does not work on 32bit

I am doing a clean install of avast 18.8.2356 on my XP machine. I downloaded avastclear.exe from Avast website. When I ran this, it comes up with an error box telling me it is no good on 32bit. That impressed me not.

Luckily I had a very old (2014) copy of avastclear stored away on a backup drive, which ran ok and seemed to clear everything except some odd Avast files in Program Data.

Is there an up-to-date 32bit uninstaller (avastclear.exe) available from Avast that can be downloaded?
(i.e. is it hidden away from public view somewhere)
Avast should make this readily available.

Ed

Could be a valid point, since Avast is now commonly running 64-bit installs for modern operating systems.

Reported to Avast.

The file is not a 64bit executable… but it seems to be compiled for operating systems higher than WinXP.
I’ll ask someone to check it.

Please use this one, it works on XP/Vista https://install.avcdn.net/iavs9x-xp/avastclear.exe

@MartinZ.
That link does not seem to work.
Anyway. There should be an avastclear available from Avast website, not here on the forum.

At least add a working link to avastclear for XP/Vista here:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=220639.0

thanks
Ed

This link works for me https://install.avcdn.net/iavs9x-xp/avastclear.exe and appears to be the latest version/build for XP/Vista.

It would appear that the XP/Vista files are on the avcdn.net domain and not on avast.com domain.

sorry, copied wrong link, corrected. Thanks DavidR

You’re welcome.

First, many thanks DavidR for providing the link to avastclear suited to WinXP/Vista.

Users expect to download Avast and avastclear direct from source i.e. the official Avast website. When they find the uninstaller that they downloaded does not run, it gives a bad perception of Avast.

Avast users should not be forced to search this forum for appropriate versions of avastclear for their specific Windows OS version.
Avast should make available an uninstaller suitable for all versions of Windows direct from their website.
If different versions of avastclear are needed for specific Windows OS versions, then that should be stated and the appropriate version of avastclear made available.

How many times do you see on this forum the advice to do a fresh install of Avast.
Without a working avastclear readily available for all Windows OS this is not possible.

we will add it on the website as well, so users coming from XP/Vista will get the correct avastclear

@MartinZ.
That will be good. Appreciated.
Thankyou.
Ed

I concur

Thank you Martin

TOTALLY WORKED!! Thanks AGAIN!
I’ve been using XP SP3 forever…Win7 is just XP SP3+ ;). I very much dislike that I need a 4+GHz CPU, 32GB RAM, Win12, Goofle Clone and the newest MB just to overcome and process all the ad-monitoring and tracking. Avast Browser was a Nice option, as I dislike Goofle’s footprint and actions.
If anything is different, I simply go into a cleanup routine. Avast has never really failed me, and has been my 1st choice for friends/business installs (at free and premier-levels accordingly). I ran “Quick Scan”- found nothing. Avast’s prog/def-files were up to date. I lost Avast in my Tray and my MS Firewall displayed as disabled? I rebooted and had Avast back, so I scheduled a Boot-scan…NOTHING was found? No new programs have been added. Avast has totally FAILED for no obvious reason than possibly the Last update? I removed Avast Secure Browser, but I can NOT remove Avast for a re-install. I’ve spent WAY TOO much time on this issue of the 32 (2-bit) bit problem. Thanks to ALL those on top of this. Avast cost me ~$300 today!
Of course I got the NOT-32-bit message. Found this thread after numerous searches. Thanks Again for Your help!
