Avastclear in safe mode not working

Hello,
I’m using Windows 7 64bit, and the free version of avast.

Today I started my pc and avast said I wasn’t protected. I tried to click the Resolve All option but got no response. I tried to repair avast, but after running repair from Control Panel and rebooting avast still said I was unprotected.

I uninstalled avast using Control Panel, did not have a problem at that point, rebooted successfully, then in normal mode I ran avastclear. A window suggested I reboot to safe mode to run avastclear, I had the program reboot my pc to save mode.

When in safe mode, at the desktop, an avast window automatically started but never progressed. It’s a white box at center screen with the orange avast logo and a spinning orange circle. I let this run for more than 2 hours before I closed the task and tried to reboot. I’ve rebooted and tried to run avastclear several times, I’ve also downloaded a new copy with same results.

Now Windows will only boot to safe mode, I cannot get avastclear to finish the uninstall, and I cannot get a windows recovery to work.

What do I need to do finish the avast uninstall, get Windows to boot to normal mode, and finally reinstall avast?

Update: It fixed itself.

In the mean time I decided to try progressively older system restore dates. After save point 6 failed, I let the pc reboot to safe mode again, and I ran the avastclear program just because.

This time avastclear started immediately, I was able to have it complete the uninstall, it rebooted back to normal mode, and I have since reinstalled avast free antivirus.

I don’t understand why this magically worked, but for now everything is back to normal. Thanks for your time.

Computer gremlin ??? Glad your problem is solved.
