AvastEmUpdate - installer freezes

Hi!

I just bought new computer few days ago and I tried to install avast on it. The problem is that whenever I try to do so installer just freezes near the end of installation when setup is trying to start AvastEmUpdate.exe /installer. I tried to reinstall whole avast, I used avastclear and nothing changed. Even now I’m waiting 40 minutes already, hopeing it’ll finish soon. I’m using win7, btw. I tried to search for answer on forum on my own, but couldn’t find anything. The computer is still “fresh”. All I did with it was installing ms office, adobe reader and programs necessary for every day use. I do not have and did not have any other security programs.

I’ll be thankful for any tips or solutions. Have a nice day and Merry Christmas!

Remove any pre-installed av before trying to install avast.

Welcome to the forum.
What Operating System ??? Which version of Avast are you installing ??? What Antivirus did you use before Avast and how was it removed ???
What other security related programs are you running ???
The more information you supply, the easier it is for us to solve your problem.

[s]So from the start:

I’m using win 7 pro x64bit system. I downloaded Avast from official site, so I assume it’s the latest - 11.1.2245 I think.

I bought computer with only operating system installed so there wasn’t any other antiviruses or security related programs or even normal programs installed, so nothing was removed or reinstalled,[/s]

As I was writing it, installation completed by itself. Sorry for the problem and thanks for quick feedback! I was really amazed seeing post after few minutes. For any other user searching for answer like me, I’d like to advice to download avastclear and redo installation. I tried to install Avast since 1 p.m. and after many tries this worked eventually.

Once again thanks for help and Merry Christmas!

It can sometimes take a few minutes for the service to start.
Glad your problem is solved.

Always nice to hear a problem is solved.

I suggest to check if any other av is installed (other than the MS one).
If there is one e.g. McAfee, Norton or any of the others, run the removal tool for it.
This will prevent issues/problems.
