AvastFree activation

Been using AvastFree for years and never had this symptom till now so just wish to be clear.

My prog version is 19.8.2393 (build 19.84793.0) running on Win10Pro v1903 (Build 18362.387).

Being nagged endlessly that licence will expire in a few days but no matter how often I click extend and select the free version and get thanked for doing it 8), the thank you screen only offers me a “Continue with upgrade button” and the 'X close button is dead, so I dismiss the window in the taskbar and go through the same nag cycle all over again each time I launch the GUI.

I tried the “Continue with Upgrade” button to see what that did and it, er, only offered me to upgrade to paid version.

I’ve tried 'repai’r a few times and only thing left is to uninstall and reinstall, except…

forum here and thereabouts say the extended free licence will happen automatically and I’ll stay protected?

Is this true for certain so I can just ignore the big red nagging warnings?

If true, why all the nagging warnings? :-[

Normally at the 12 days before the renewal date you would start to get reminders, but there should also be some changes in:

A) the main UI, an Activate button. That had been the case for me for some considerable time.

B) in the Avast tray icon - Registration information. That should show your registration information and there should be a drop down list with more information. There should also be something there to indicate Activate.

In any case the program shouldn’t stop working and should eventually renew itself 10 days after the so called expiry.

I’m still amazed how bloody painful this can be for some, when we are supposedly not required to register. This to me is registering and is worse them when we had to register, it’s a pain in the backside. I have to wonder if this is to try and tempt users to upgrade to the paid product.

An automatic registration or no registration requirement should be in place for the Free version of Avast.
It would certainly make life easier for everyone. Don’t know what effect that has on those that wind up with the paid version
during the current renewal process. :frowning:

Thanks for replies. As of today I’m being told in red ink that my Avast Free licence is no longer valid and I need to reactivate it. Can’t do nowt about it. Still, Windows Defender/Security seems happy and says Avast is still turned on, so I guess I’ll just wait and see what happens next. Bit weird all the same.

You’re welcome, it should continue to protect you and ‘should eventually renew itself 10 days after expiry,’ without user input required.

Why this is happening isn’t normal, but certainly needs sorted out by Avast.
